Rooms & Suites

Quiet rooms facing the Baltic, built for deep sleep in every season of a Finnish year.

The Design

Finnish Oak, Wool and Granite

Our rooms are made of the same three materials as the island they stand on: pale Finnish oak underfoot, heavy wool on the bed, granite in the bathroom. Full blackout curtains shut out the white summer nights the moment you want them shut, the bathroom floors are heated through the cold half of the year, and there is not one room at Arctic Vela without a window facing the Baltic.

Archipelago View Room with a king bed and a floor-to-ceiling window looking east over the Baltic Sea

Archipelago View Room

Our signature room: oak floors, a wool-dressed king bed and a floor-to-ceiling window facing the islands. A rainfall shower, warm granite underfoot and a writing desk with the sea in front of it.

Tähti Sky Suite with a glass ceiling above the bed showing the night sky over Helsinki

Tähti Sky Suite

Tähti means star, and a glass ceiling runs the full length of the bed, so the last thing you see is the sky over the archipelago. A curtain track closes it whenever you would rather it were closed.

Vela Corner Suite

Our largest suite, wrapped around the corner of the building with windows on two sides. A separate living room, a working fireplace, a dining table and room enough for a family to spread out.

Signature Suite

Sleeping Under the Tähti Ceiling

The glass above the bed is not an ordinary skylight. It is triple-glazed and engineered for a Finnish winter, with heated edges that keep frost and condensation off the pane — so on the coldest February night what you are looking at is still the sky, not a grey blur.

By four in the afternoon in midwinter it is already dark out there: stars over the frozen harbour, and snow arriving without a sound on the glass a metre above your face. In June it turns completely around. The white nights leave a long blue twilight that barely darkens at all, and you lie watching the light move across the ceiling instead.

Now and again, on a rare strong solar night, a faint green shimmer reaches even this far south and can be seen from the bed. Consider it a bonus if it happens — we would never promise it, and the suite is worth the night on its own.
